The Impact of WhatsApp Utilization Patterns among Mass Communication Students of Saudi and Bahraini Universities for Academic Purposes (Published)

The study aims to identify The Usage of WhatsApp for Academic Knowledge in Gulf Tertiary Institutions among Students from Saudi and Bahraini Universities, applying to a sample of 175 students. The results indicated that the students used this application for many reasons such as: participate in discussion about assignments and research, publish some notifications and announcements about courses among classmates, discuss course Specification with the instructor , exchange the ideas about course project with my classmates, increase accommodation with behaviors related to academic performance, exchange the previous and expected exams questions with classmates, Increase my co-operation with classmates in preparing assignments.

Environmental Management and Recreational Facilities Usage: A Study of Kainji Lake National Park (Published)

Assessment of Environmental and Recreation Facility Maintenance was carried out in Kainji Lake National Park. Questionnaire method of data collection was employed to collect the data needed. Purposive and simple random techniques were adopted to sample respondents in the study area. One hundred questionnaires were designed and administered. The data collected were analyzed through simple percentage and presented in table and charts. However, the results showed that recreation facilities are 99% present, while swimming pool is 65% functional. The study showed that visitors came there three times in a week indicating 44% of the respondents while on maintenance of the park environment and the facilities indicated 94% and 88% of the respondents respectively. The study further recommended the followings facilities basketball pitch. Hockey game, volley ball and well-constructed swimming pool.

Use of Social Media in Mobilising Support for Abductees in Nigeria: A Study of Epe School Kidnap (Published)

This work examines social media usage to support abductees in Nigeria, beaming its searchlight on the case of the 6 Epe school boys, who were kidnapped at The Lagos State Model College on May 24, 2017. This study seeks to know various ways the social media contribute to the freedom of abductees in Nigeria and how potent the social media could be in mobilising support for them.  The survey method was adopted, and questionnaire was used to collect data. For this study, 528 questionnaires were given to respondents in the 66 streets on Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in Epe Local Government of Lagos State. 521 of the questionnaire were returned. Eredo has a population of 18,590, and 3% of the population was used. Purposive sampling method was chosen for this study. This is adopted in order to select the members of the population that are fit to give the correct answers to the research questions. The findings of this study reveal that the contributions of Nigerians and social media outcry made the government and its agencies to take speedy action on the abduction of the Epe school boys. This study finds out that the social media has the power to reach a large number of Nigerians faster than other media of communication.       This study therefore recommends that the Civil Society organisations in Nigeria and Human Right Groups should explore the advantages of the social media to reach the people and the government alike. The study also recommends that Nigerians still need orientations on how to maximize the power of the social media.

Transliteration and Translation from Bangla into English: A Problem Solving Approach (Published)

This paper exemplifies the significance and explores the complexity of transliteration and translation in the domain of language. Because of the differences of grammar, semantics, phonetics as well as stylistic features of the two languages – Bangla and English – we often find some defective linguistic production. These are at all times a very tough task and confronted with various issues. Since it is a most intricate and subtle areas of language studies, one must be aware of both the surface and underlying relations of language. The characteristic elements are also transferred from one language into the other. Sometimes, the translation of some names and expressions seem to be unnecessary, unwise or problematic as they are already well-fixed, well-known and recognized by the people for a long span of time. Transliteration and translation from Bangla into English or vice versa creates some difficulties though they are from the same origin. So, this research paper focuses and investigates the various problems of transliteration and translation of Bangla into English and tries to find some solutions on the basis of some need-based discussion and analysis. To help the non-native users of the two languages understand better, the IPA transcription is also provided where required.

Evaluating the Implementation of the Android Applications on the Students of Phonetics Course in the English Department at TTU (Published)

This study aims at evaluating the students’ attitudes and perceptions on the implementation of the Android application “K&J English Pronunciation” as a learning tool in the teaching of Phonetics course in the English department at Tafila Technical University. It also focuses on investigating the students’ interaction and understanding of this application, the extent to which they use it in their learning, the obstacles they encounter in using it, and their suggestions and recommendations for a better use of this application in learning. Hence, the data was collected via a questionnaire distributed to the students of Phonetics course in the English department at TTU to evaluate their attitudes and interaction with this android application, the extent of their usage of this application, and the obstacles that halt their usage of it. The goal of this study is to shed light on the importance of integrating smart phone applications in the teaching of English courses at the English department at TTU, which will pave the way towards implementing more technological tools and applications in other courses in the English department in the future. The data analysis shows that the students’ attitudes, interaction, and the extent of their usage of this application are very high. Whereas the results show that the obstacles that the students encounter in implementing this application are very low. Finally, all the students of the course were strongly agreed that TTU University should work hard on arming the students with enough knowledge via holding seminars and workshops on how to use these android applications effectively, and on designing some useful applications to use in other courses in the future.
