Assessment of Anxiety on Tests Dishonesty among Undergraduate Students in University of Calabar, Cross River State Nigeria (Published)

The major aim of this study was to assess the influence of anxiety on tests dishonesty among undergraduate students in University of Calabar, Cross River State in Nigeria. Literature review of both theoretical and empirical studies was done according to the variable under study. The sample for the study was drawn from the population of seven hundred and thirty-five (735) undergraduates’ students from year, 2, 3 and 4, comprising three hundred and two (302) females and one hundred and ninety-eight (198) males were used for the study. The data were collected using an eight (8) item research instrument. The data were analyzed with the use of independent t-test. The result of the analysis reviewed that anxiety influences test dishonesty among undergraduate students in university of Calabar, Cross River State in Nigeria.  Based on the findings of the study it was recommended that all stakeholders in education should play their parts through educating and forming tests ethics club for students, parents and lecturers among others. The school authority should ensure that lecturers perform their duty effectively and should also pay staff earning as at when due in order to reduce corruption within the educational system.

Awareness and Perception of Plagiarism among Undergraduate Students of Selected Higher Institutions in Rivers State, Nigeria (Published)

Plagiarism has eaten deep into the fabrics of higher institutions worldwide and it has continued to be a global concern. A lot of measures have been put in place by organization/institutions to curb this menace. Some had even subscribed to plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin. This crime is so common among the undergraduate students, some go to the Internet or textbook to copy and paste without acknowledging the source. The understanding of various perspectives and attitude towards this issue is critical to finding a lasting solution. This study therefore investigated the awareness and perception of plagiarism among final year students of Faculty of Education in Rivers State University and Final year – HND2 students (Accredited departments) in Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic. Four research questions were formulated to guide the study, the study employed a descriptive survey research design and correlational study while using a well-structured questionnaire and rating scale as data collection instrument. The sample size of the study is 310, the instrument was designed into two sections. Section A covers the background data of the students while section B covered the research questions. Descriptive statistical techniques like table of frequency counts and percentages were employed in the analysis of the background data, mean score, standard deviation and correlation coefficient were used in answering the research questions while regression was used in testing the hypotheses. The result revealed that p-value of .211>.05 which means that there is no significant relationship between awareness and perception of plagiarism among the students. It also shows that every one of the discussants were aware of what plagiarism is and most students plagiarize without even realizing the implications. It was recommended that there should be penalties from institution and other relevant authorities to punish students who do plagiarism.

Impact of Library Services and Resources on Undergraduate Students as users of faculty Library: A case study of Faculty of Management Science Library, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, Nigeria (Published)

This paper examined the impact of library resources and service on undergraduate students as users of Faculty library. The research also based on the type of materials accessed by users, impact of library services provided, adequacy of library resources and service, problem faced in the usage of faculty library and solution. To retrieve the necessary information, a questionnaire was randomly distributed to a sample of 300 respondents drawn from a population of 600 library users of undergraduate students of Faculty of Management Science Library, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria. The findings revealed that library resources were not stressful to access to students as a result of adequacies emanating from resources.  A response rate of at least 100% was achieved. The researcher used frequency and simple percentage to analyze the data, the outcome results indicated that the majority of 78% of the respondents find the resources and service of Faculty Library effective. 85% of the respondents agreed that the Faculty Library resources are adequate for their various information needs. Base on the finding, recommendations were made in order to boost the library services and resources provided to meet more of the demands of teeming population of users. It was recommended among others that electronic /online information resources should be made available in the library to help students and scholars to have access to current materials. Also the library collection should be well organized to ensure that the catalogue and other bibliographic access resources reflect the truth content of the library.

The Attitudes of Undergraduate Students towards Using E-exams for Assessment in Jordan (Published)

The present study aimed to explore the attitudes of undergraduate students towards using e-exams for assessment in Jordan. It also aimed to identify the challenges facing Jordanian universities in using e-exams for assessment. The researcher designed a questionnaire. A purposive sample was selected from the University of Jordan. It consists from (93) undergraduate students who were selected from two sections of the (national education) course at the University of Jordan. Questionnaire forms were distributed to the sample members by hand. All the forms were retrieved. However, (87) forms are considered valid for statistical analysis.  The response rate is (100% Percentages), standard deviations and means are calculated. It was found that respondents have positive attitudes towards using e-exams for assessment in Jordan. It was found that the severity of the challenges facing Jordanian universities in using e-exams for assessment is high. It was found that e-exam makes students feel less stressed than the paper-based exam.

Medicine Use and Medication Related Problem among Nigerian Undergraduate Students (Published)

Globally, more than 50% of all medicines are prescribed, dispensed or sold inappropriately. Unnecessary overuse of medicine can stimulate inappropriate patients’ demand and lead to medicine stock out and loss of patient’s confidence in the health system. The study seeks to investigate medicine use and medication related problems among undergraduate students in Nigeria universities. The study adopted Social action theory, in order to understand actor’s motives and belief and their own interpretation of medicine.  A descriptive research design was employed for the study, using both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection. The sample size was collected through random purposive technique and a total of 202 questionnaires were distributed to students of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti and all the questionnaires were retrieved and used for the analysis. Also, 16 In-depth Interviews were conducted with male and female respondents and content analysis was employed for qualitative data. Findings showed that over half (60%)of the sample population, use medicine only when their health condition is getting worse because they had medication related problems the last time the used medicine. Consequently, the conclusions were drawn from the findings extracted from real life experiences rather than on assumptions or theoretical ideas. It was discovered that, majority of the students, discontinued the use of medicine, the last time they had medication related problems. Comparatively, a high proportion of the respondents’ believed that drugs produced in Europe are of better quality compare to that of Africa and also they hate complaining to the physician about their health. Health workers and policy makers should increase the awareness appropriate medicine use and the consequences of inappropriate use of medicine.
