Social Networking and Participation as Predictors of Teachers Emotional Intelligence in Public Secondary Schools in Rivers State (Published)

The study investigated social networking and participation as predictors of teachers’ emotional intelligence in public secondary schools in Rivers State. Two objectives, two research questions as well as two hypotheses were postulated to guide the study. The design for the study was correlational design. The population of the study comprised all the 16,743 public secondary school teachers in Rivers State out of which 376 teachers were sampled for the study through multi-stage sampling technique. Two questionnaires which were a 35-tem questionnaire titled “Social Capital Investment Scale” (SCIS) as well as 40-item questionnaire titled Emotional Intelligence Scale” (EIS) were the instruments used for the collection of data for the study. The questionnaires were validated by three experts in the area of Measurement and Evaluation, Department of Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Faculty of Education, University of Port Harcourt. However, for the reliability, Cronbach Alpha was used to determine the internal consistency of the questionnaires with reliability co-efficients of 0.76 and 0.83 for the sections of the independent variable and 0.96 for the dependent variable. The research questions were answered using Pearson Product Moment Correlation while the hypotheses were tested using z-ratio at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study showed that there was a positive relationship between social networking and teacher’s emotional intelligence. Similarly, a positive relationship exists between social participation and teachers’ emotional intelligence in public secondary schools in Rivers State. It was recommended that school administrators should endeavor to organize social activities among teachers, parents and students as often as possible to encourage teachers’ participation and freedom of association should be promoted in order to strengthen social networking in these schools.

The Impact of Social Networking on Academic Performance in Mathematics in Selected Secondary Schools in Edo State (Published)

This study was aimed at investigating the impact of social networking on the academic performance of secondary school students in mathematics using selected secondary schools in Edo State. The study was necessitated by the relative new culture of communication and connecting with friends via the internet in this part of the world. The work also seeks to find out what motivate students to study mathematics. The study adopted descriptive research design; simple random sampling procedure was used to select ten public and private secondary schools out of the lot in the area. The research instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. The data obtained from respondents were analyzed using simple percentage and the results were briefly discussed. The findings revealed that students disposition towards their teacher (mathematics teacher in this case) and their intended career can motivate them to study mathematics; students have access to phones, computers and other communication devices and the internet. Majority of the respondents indicate that social networking do not have negative effect on their study habits. It was recommended that students should be enlightened on the academic advantage in social networks and guided to avoid been distracted from their studies.

Use of Gemification in Marketing (Published)

In this paper we deal with the application of gemification in the field of Internet marketing. We suggest the use of gemification to increase website traffic, increase the time spent on the website, and to increase the customer satisfaction with our product.

Students’ Perception of the Use of Social Networking Web-Based Tools for Instructional Delivery among Undergraduate Students (Published)

This paper examined the use of social networking web-based tools for instructional delivery among undergraduate students. Consequently, two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The survey study consisted of 200 students drawn from the Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Calabar Centre. A well validated 10 item questionnaire on a four- point likert scale was the instrument used for data collection. Data collected was analyzed using Pearson product moment correlation coefficient analysis at .05 level of significance. The results show that the use of web-based tools (e-mail, face book) greatly improved the quality of educational interaction and delivery among undergraduate students of NOUN. The paper, therefore, advocates that undergraduate students should be sufficiently exposed to and flexibly utilized these web-based tools to improve the quality of their academic work.

Descriptive survey and convenient sampling were the research design and sampling technique used respectively. The sample size of the study was two hundred (200) psychology students of the university of Cape Coast. Three research questions were posed to guide the study. Research findings showed that a greater number of psychology students in the university had access to the internet.To this end the researcher recommended that social networking sites should be created for educational purposes. This is to create a balance between social networking and academic activities of students to avoid setbacks in the academic performance of students.

THE EFFECTS OF SOCIAL NETWORKING, EDUCATION, AND SELF-EFFICACY ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SUBJECTIVE WELL-BEING: A CASE STUDY ON SMALL-SCALED EMBROIDERY INDUSTRIES IN PROBOLINGGO (Published)

There are a few researches linking to social networking, education, self-efficacy, entrepreneurship and subjective well-being (SWB). Previous researches related to economic relations and SWB, especially to compare the SWB between countries. Different from the theese, this research is more comprehensive in discussing entrepreneurship. This research was intended to analyze the effects of social networking, education, and self-efficacy on entrepreneurship and subjective well-being of small-scaled embroidery industries in Probolinggo. The samples of this research consisted of 130 out of 150 embroidery entrepreneurs in Probolinggo. As means of data collection, the researchers applied survey method by asking questionnaire to the respondents (entrepreneurs at Probolinggo embroidery industries center). The questionnaire used in this research had been passed validity and reliability test to assure the questionnaire was valid and reliable. Meanwhile, data analysis process was conducted based on Partial Least Square (PLS) technique. The findings of this research indicated that: 1) embroidery entrepreneurs’ social networking significantly affected their entrepreneurship; 2) their education did not significantly affect their entrepreneurship; 3) their self-efficacy significantly affected their entrepreneurship; 4) social networking significantly affected their subjective well-being; 5) their education did not significantly affect their subjective well-being; 6) self-efficacy significantly affected their subjective well-being; 7) entrepreneurship of the entrepreneurs at Probolinggo embroidery industries center significantly affected their subjective well-being.
