Financial Accounting Information Relevance and Share Prices: A Case Study of Unilever Nigeria PLC Listed on the NSE (Published)

This study examined financial accounting information relevance and share price association using Unilever Nigeria PLC, a multinational company listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange under the consumer goods sector as a case study. The study adopted market price per share (MPS) as proxy for share price and the dependent variable, while earnings per share and dividend per share were the financial accounting data used as the independent variables. Secondary data was collected through content analysis of the published annual financial statements of Unilever Nigeria PLC for the period 2009 to 2018 and the Nigerian Stock Exchange fact book. The study employed descriptive statistics and linear regression analysis based on the ordinary least squares method as techniques for data analysis. The results of the study revealed that earnings per share (EPS) and dividend per share are not significantly related to market price per share (MPS). Based on the findings, the study concluded that financial accounting information (EPS and DPS) are not relevant for determining the market price of shares. This implies that EPS and DPS are not relevant for determining the market price of Unilever shares. The study recommended among others, that more inclusive further studies should be conducted to be able to make general inference on the subject concerning the consumer goods sector in Nigeria.

An Intelligent Product Suggestion Algorithm Using Predictive Analysis for Personalized User Interface Building (Published)

The main objective of this research was to propose a technological solution to the long queues that are often seen in many retail outlets. As the solution this research proposes a self-checkout application. The application populates a list predicted next purchasing item set making the user interface intelligent and user friendly. The research introduces a model named RFR-U model to generate the next purchasing item list of the customer. It uses the parameters; relevance, recency and frequency to determine the next purchasing item set. The algorithm uses a rule based approach with weighted ratings. Although collaborative method is a popular method in finding such results, in the studied scenario, it is not applicable as the store does not maintain a comprehensive user profiles or facilitates the users to rate products. The proposed algorithm and the solution was evaluated both quantitatively and qualitatively and results show an accuracy above 80%.

A Relevance of the Implementation of Vocational School (VS) Towards the Needs of Industry and Workforce (Published)

This study explores the relevance of vocational school (VS) and industries to meet the needs of industries in order to get quality workers from VS. Therefore, the government of Indonesia stresses to strengthen vocational school (VS) through training both in school, company, or in technopark in order that the graduate of VS may have better competence and skill.  Quantitative and qualitative of the secondary data, the in-depth interview during the focus group discussion (FGD), and survey data was collected from 536 respondents from 36 VS in eight provinces. Analysis was the combination of qualitative and quantitative from both survey and document triangulated with interview of other related resource persons. The findings reveal that the relevance of training in school and the needs of the industries is 91,67% relevant, the relevance of knowledge and the needs of industries taught in school is 93.34% relevant, skill 93.34%, and attitude 97.5%. Teachers perceptions for the three aspects is 90.83%. Most of the VS school programs are in accordance to meet the needs of industries, which have been working collabotively with schools. Training in both industries and technopark has improved VS students and teachers’ competence and skill.  However, it is different with the reality that most of vocational school graduates have not been accepted by private sector or industries to work at their company due to the lack of several aspects, such as the skills which does not occur to the work of industries.

Ethical Principles and Relevance of Financial Reports of Quoted Companies in Nigeria (Published)

Financial reports are meant to present relevant accounting information among other qualities required of them. The relevance of financial report is necessary in decision making; investors, lenders and other creditors place reliance on financial reports that reflect predictive and confirmatory financial information. However, some financial information have been known to be distorted or falsified; resulting in irrelevant and misleading reports that are not suitable for decision making. Using survey research design based on a population of 4893 accountants and auditors of 169 quoted companies and four regulatory bodies in Nigeria, the study investigated the relationship between ethical principles and relevance of financial reports. Four hundred copies of the research instrument with a reliability test coefficient of 0.830 using the Cronbach’s alpha statistics were distributed with a 92.5% return rate. Data analysis employed the use of descriptive and inferential statistics. The results indicate that ethical principles influence the relevance of financial reports significantly ( F(4, 366) = 36.721, Adj. R2 = 0.279, p = 0.000). The study recommends continuous ethical orientation for accountants, managers and auditors of Nigerian quoted companies

English Arabic Cultural Effect in Translation: A Relevance Theory Perspective (Published)

This study is framed within a competence-oriented model which provides the target text (TT) receiver with communicative clues. These clues allow inference to be optimally captured. Hence, this approach looks at translation as an example of communication mainly based on the cost and effect model of inferencing and interpretations. Strategies adopted in this paper are determined by context-specific consideration of relevance, with special reference to cultural aspects. Applied to translation, one of the most appropriate strategies is to re-produce the cognitive effect intended by the source text (ST) communicator with the lowest possible effort on the part of the TT receiver. This study concludes that when there is a lack of isomorphism or symmetry between the cultural contents of the two languages, the translator will have to opt for content-cognitive effect or cultural transplantation. The translator would have to assess the relevance of content and form in a specific context in order to achieve the same effect in the TT. It has been emphasized, however, that translation as a special instance of human communication leads to the conclusion that various methods may be justified in their own right, if we take into consideration the differences in the text-types, the intention of the author, readership, and the purpose of translation. In a nutshell, however, translation remains a craft which requires not just training and skill but also continually renewed linguistic and non-linguistic knowledge, considerable imagination as well as intelligence and common sense, and most of all talent

The ‘quest’ for creating and maintaining relevance in the competitive world is acting as a driving force of innovation and transformation. Recent research reveals that technology-as-business-driver is going to play a mission critical role in driving organizational transformation. Digital Transformation thus gets the priority in the strategic agenda of the organization towards creating a new paradigm in value delivery mechanism. Digitizing is no longer an option for but a must choice for futurising the organization to create competitiveness, sustainability and the growth. The strategic imperative of any futuristic organization is to achieve enduring customer relevance and sustainable customer value at scale through a customer-centric digital transformation. Whether companies perceive digitalization as a threat, a challenge or an opportunity, those that ignore it do so at their own peril. Author has used case analysis as a research method to analyze and zero in to the key objectives. Therefore author’s thought process is focused on presenting a research perspective along with practical ideas and steps towards information technology optimization and digital transformation to accelerate growth overcoming issues, challenges and critical problems with undiluted focus on FUTURIZATION. This article will ignite academic interest and debate in the area with a new outlook on strategic imperatives of organization for technology adoption and application and will foster further research on technology optimization, digitalization for organizational renewal, relevance and repositioning in the value equation of the industry growth curve.

Table of Specification and its Relevance in educational development Assessment (Published)

The study examined the Table of Specification and its Relevance in Educational Assessment. The sample employed for the study is made up of one hundred and twenty (120) students randomly selected from four departments at the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Akoka. Nigeria. A questionnaire developed by the researcher was used for the study. Three Research Questions and three null Hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance using independent t-test of difference and Pearson Product Moment‘s Correlation Statistical analyses. It was found out that the three hypotheses posited were significant. There was significant difference between Table of Specification and its Relevance in Educational Assessment, positive relationship exists between problems of Table of Specification and its Relevance in the Educational Assessment and there is significant relationship between general pattern of preparing Table of Specification and its Relevance in the Educational Assessment.

It was recommended that teachers should endeavors to construct a well test blue print that will help improve the validity of teacher evaluation based on given assessment, teachers must ensure that the test constructed measure an adequate sampling of the class at all level of domains and teachers and students must comply with all the laid down when preparing Table of Specification in schools.
