Outsourcing and Organisational Efficiency of Issues in Nigeria: Rivers State University as a Case Study (Published)
This paper is a theoretical paper, and its purpose was to discuss literature on the relationship between outsourcing and organizational efficiency. The paper offers a detailed assessment of outsourcing and its implications for organizational operations and functionality. The resource-based theory was adopted as the theoretical foundation for the study, and it offered a strong position in support of the imperatives of focusing on key assets and responsibilities as a way of enhancing organizational efficiency and ultimately competitiveness. The position reached based on the congruence of views, specifies outsourcing as commendable and required for the efficient functioning of organizations today. On this note, it was concluded that the features of cost and organizational operations are efficiently addressed through the adoption of outsourcing practices and behaviour which are strategic and which allow for the organizations focus on its own key and primary functions. The study also recommended that the practice of outsourcing should be such that emphasizes more on the additional functions and areas identified as weak or overly costly to the organization. Such features can be addressed through a shift in responsibilities to other organizations which are more proficient and structured for that purpose.
Review Of Operational Constraints Responsible For Benue Cement Company’s Inability to Achieve Strategic Business Mission and Objectives (Published)
This study is a critical review to determine the operational constraints responsible for Benue Cement Company Plc’s inability to achieve its strategic business mission/objectives, which led to its takeover by Dangote Cement Plc as its subsidiary plant. The research method adopted is an analytical, historical and descriptive survey analysis. Primary and secondary sources of data were used for the study. The instrument use for data collection was a five point Likert scale questionnaire designed to meet the research objectives for the study. 308 participants were used for the study. Analyses of data and result from literature and empirical reviews suggests that: BCC Plc had these operational constraints: low capacity utilization, weak liquidity, erratic public power supply, higher prices of petroleum products, re-capitalization, high operating and distribution cost; inability to meet customer demand ; production and distribution inefficiency, inadequate spare parts, raw materials scarcity, management inability to manage its business opportunities and threats, incessant plant breakdown, which resulted in occasional shift in brand preference . The research conclude that BCC Plc’s management lacked good sense of urgency in managing the company’s operations to survive, grow, remain competitive and profitable to achieve strategic business mission and objectives in its business operations.
The testing of reading comprehension seems deceptively simple when compared to the testing of other abilities. The basic problem is that the language tester is expected to set tasks that will not only lead the candidate to use reading skills but will also result in behavior that provides clear evidence of the successful use of those skills. This paper aims to evaluate the IELTS Academic Reading Module Test in detail, examining its validity and reliability and discussing how far its format, operations, conditions, and techniques meet its purpose. The paper focuses mainly on the test scoring rules, which appear to be strict in terms of spelling, grammar, and the number of words required for written responses. It concludes with some recommendations on ways in which the validity and reliability of IELTS reading scoring rules could be improved.
