A Sociometric Analysis for the Creation of an Integrated Multicultural Work Team (Published)

This research applied the sociometric theory to develop methodologies focused to enhance the performance and integration of multicultural work teams, as part of one the authors’ master dissertation. Sociometric tests were administered in a purposive sample of N=26 students from twelve countries, in four different scenarios: (i) work team, (ii) leadership, (iii) trip (leisure time) and (iv) personal problem. Two additional questions were asked about: (v) how they felt when they answered the survey and (vi) which question(s) was/were difficult to answer and why. The focus on these two questions was to understand the emotional state of the respondents when they answered the survey and related this emotional state to the Sociometric Theory. The results were organized on sociometric matrices, through MS Excel. Data were analyzed for each scenario presented. Furthermore, the software Kumu was used as a tool to further analyze the connections between the people in the selected group using three metrics: (a) size, (b) degree centrality and (c) indegree. Also Kumu was used to draw the sociometric maps. Finally, a methodology on how studying relationships inside companies, to design teams and to identify the best work team based on the interrelationship between the people as well as the lack of communication among the team members, project team or inside the company as a whole. Discussion and future research recommendations complete the present work.

Comparative and Evaluation of Explicit Rate Flow Control in ATM Networks (Published)

Current and feature application make use of different technologies as voice, data and video. Consequently network technologies needed to support them. This paper gives the technical overflow of different networking technologies such as the internet. ATM and different approaches to run input on top of an ATM network and access their potential to be used as an integrated services network. Novel high throughput reservation based switch architecture for ATM/WDM network [4] is presented. This scheme is connection free a highly flexible yielding a powerful solution for high speed broadband packet switching networks

Network Governance, a Response to the Dilemma of Ski-Resort Sustainable Development (Published)

Regulating access to common resources and organizing their exploitation is, usually, the responsibility of local authorities and the object of local governance. However, in ski resorts, participating the private sector in territorial management could have a better impact on resource preservation due to the seasonality of ski dynamism and its impact on network efficacy. This article aims to study the concept of local network governance and to examine its influence on sustainable development. The effectiveness of this governance is illustrated by the case of Mzaar ski-resort in Lebanon.

Optimizing Global System for Mobile Communication Network Design via Minimum Spanning Tree (Published)

This paper explores the technique of minimum spanning tree (MST) to optimize the design of Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication network. The coverage area is Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The estimated subscriber capacity is 200,000. Area view from satellite images in space using Google earth and Arc GIS software provided part of the site survey data. Base Station (BS) selection was based on population density of any given area. Follow-up physical visit to selected locations was undertaken to augment the information from Google earth and Arc Map. The coverage of each site and the corresponding antenna height were determined from the survey data. The technique of MST was deployed in the analysis of the site survey data. The outcome showed a reduction from 80 possible network links to only 28 links. The MST outcome also provided alternative links that could guarantee service during critical repair works.
