Implementation of granite mass management system (MMS) in commercial granite quarries- a scientific solution for assessment of recovery percentage-case study based on indian context (Published)
Mass Management System (MMS) is considered as an important tool within the operating system of commercial granite quarries which are spread across the southern peninsular India where huge deposits for exploiting both black and multicolored granite varieties occur. The history of commercial granite exploitation dates back to late sixties and is now considered as one of the commodities having potential for earning foreign exchange besides for employment generation in rural sector. With the exponential growth of the granite industry during recent times, the quarrying techniques have been advanced by adopting the State of the Art technology to suit its mass exploitation. Due to various geological factors like regional tectonics and associated structural styles viz. faults, folds, shear fractures, restrict its recovery to the minimal and as a result huge quantity of granite wastes generate in all the quarry fronts causing a major environmental problem. In this context, implementation of MMS in quarries play a vital role in enhancing its recovery percentage and also for proper upkeep of records quantifying the total mass generated within approved mining scheme period of five years vis a vis establishing the actual recovery of saleable blocks in that quarry. This will help the quarry owners not only to prognosticate the monthly production but also to safeguard at times of crisis whenever any dispute arise with Government authorities in quantifying the saleable blocks and for payment of huge penalty amount running to several crores of rupees. As such maintenance of such records is mandatory as per Granite Conservation and Development Rules 1999, it is observed that most of the quarries lack proper data or no scientific method adopted to quantify the total mass of granite excavated in a particular quarry month/year wise. Therefore, based on the problems experienced by quarry owners during recent times, it is apprehended the need for a scientific method viz MMS for implementation in quarries not only to defend themselves at times dispute with authorities but also to plan their quarry operations in a more meaningful manner
Skepticism and Doubt: A Study of Interpersonal Relationships in E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India (Published)
Through a close reading of E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India (1924), this paper seeks to expose the various personal relationships depicted in the novel. It also sheds light on the two nations described, the colonizer, represented by the British, and the colonized, represented by the Indians, and their attitudes towards each other. The analytical approach will be adopted throughout the paper. The paper tries to answer a vital question, posed by some Indian characters at the beginning of the narrative: Whether the British and the Indians can be friends. To achieve this end and to answer this question, the main focus will be on the exploration of different relationships developed throughout the text. Some critics have remarked that Forster was over-critical in his portrayal of the Anglo-Indians. Many Englishmen were annoyed and even offended with Forster for writing such a book. But impartial people never take such criticism seriously. A Passage to India is a superbly realistic novel with some unrealistic flashes here and there. The novel reflects the courageous vision of the unembarrassed and unprejudiced observer of the Indian National Scene. Where he deviated from facts and succumbed to exaggerations, the reasons are not to be sought very far. One reason may be that he was carried off his mental balance through an over-dependence on fictitious rumors set afloat by the rulers. Most of the relationships failed miserably because the soil was not fertile for them to flourish. The result of the research concluded that individual human efforts are bound to fail in the face of the inevitable march of events over which human beings have no control. Friendship is only possible among equals, and the British and the Indians were not equal at the time when this novel was written.

It is a limitless industry with immense growth potential having clear remarkable positive impact on economic and social aspects of Indian economy
The study was designed to investigate the the progress of Indian cements industry since 1991, in terms of its growth in installed capacity, production, exports, and value additions; In detail the research methodology used for the study that has focused on the past, present and the future performance of Indian Cement Industry (ICI) at the macro level and the Chettinadu Cement Corporation Limited (CCCL) at the micro level as a case firm. The study purely relies on secondary data. The secondary data were collected for a period of fifteen years (1991-92 to 2005-06) from the database maintained and made available by several organizations viz., Cement Manufacturers Association, Export Import Bank of India, Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy etc. for the purpose of effective periodical analysis. In order to know the progress of ICI, annual time series data for the six variables were studied for trend, cyclical variation and random variation, as seasonal variation was not observable in the annual data. The estimated trend equations were evaluated for their goodness of fit and predictive power and found valid to draw inferences. The values of the six variables were projected to the next five years. Estimated values were adjusted for the likely effects of cyclical variations (c) the reliability of predicted values were evaluated with the help of forecasting error. In the end of the study implications and conclusion were provided.
