Assessment of Special Education Service Delivery: A Global Perspective (Published)

This paper preoccupied itself with the assessment of special education service delivery to persons with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities, who are the subjects of special education, encounter difficulties that prevent or make it strenuous to use a part of their body completely or easily or that they cannot learn easily. Special education service delivery requires the expertise of special educators and para-professionals like the psychologists, social welfare workers, medical personnel and a host of others who are charged with the delivery of quality special education services to meet the needs of all persons with disabilities. Special education services include rehabilitation services, assessment/identification strategies, home/hospital based services, provision of materials/equipment and assistive technology for persons with disabilities etc. Globally, there are two paradigms for service delivery namely special school setting and general or regular school settings. The paper sampled trends of service delivery in India, Brazil, Kenya, Malaysia and of course Nigeria. The paper found that most countries have embraced the regular classroom as modality for service delivery for persons with disabilities. The paper identified challenges in the areas of teacher-pupil ratio, funding, failure of parental instruction, individualized education programme, special facilities, equipment and assistive technology, poor rehabilitation services, inclusion, attitudes to persons with disability amongst others that must be tackled to enable efficient service delivery for persons with disability. It was on this note that the paper was concluded.

Global Warming and Family Living In Victoria, Island, Lagos State Nigeria (Published)

The study focused on the influence of global warming on family living in Victoria Island in Eti-OSA Local Government Area of Lagos State. Specifically, the study was designed to find out the influence of global warming on food insecurity, family health and ways of reducing global warming in Victoria Island. The design of the study was descriptive survey. The sample size for the study was three hundred and ninety nine (399) households using random sampling techniques. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire and was validated. Reliability of the instrument was 0.75 established using Cronbach Alpha Coefficient. The research questions were answered on individual item basis using frequency and mean. The findings of the study revealed that global warming leads to huger, increases poverty, reduces food supply. It was also found that there is increase in malaria due to increase in spread of mosquitoes, heat rashes among others. Based on the findings of the study it was recommended that educating people especially the younger generation about global warming through media, educational institutions and discouraging cutting of trees and encouraging large-scale tree planting because trees absorb carbon dioxide among others.

The Impact of Global Economic Meltdown On African Economic Development: Lessons from American Experience (Published)

The quite recent global economic disaster that had dealt a devastated blow on economies across the globe deserves attention in the field of academic given the effect it has had on African economy. The need to do a critical appraisal on the phenomenon –global economic meltdown; identification of its causes and effect on global economy and Africa as a continent becomes imperative in view of the quest for sustainable Africa economy and the need to fight the scourge of poverty in Africa. This paper through a historical analysis and critical research method focuses predominantly on American experiences and panacea adopted to ameliorate the menace. The discovery made on this critical survey might form the benchmark in understanding the way out of the most recent and subsequent experiences of economic meltdown.

Indian handicraft industry and exports: An economic analysis (Review Completed - Accepted)

India is one among the culturally rich countries in the world. The country is fortunate enough to possess some highly skilled artisans. They have increased the fame of Indian handicrafts around the globe. The Indian handicrafts industry is highly labour intensive, cottage based and decentralized industry. It plays a significant & important role in the country’s economy. The crafts of India are diverse, rich in history and religion. The aesthetics of each state in India reflect the influence of different empires. Throughout centuries, crafts have been rooted as a culture and tradition within communities of India. Indian handicraft earns well from its exports and also the subject for global exhibitions representing India.
