Covid-19and Education: A Case for Experiential Learning Theory (Published)

Education is a key player in addressing any social problem; it provides individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to cope with any eventuality. Conceiving the fact that the school is a veritable tool to fixing the society in all spheres of life, including outbreak of diseases such as COVID-19, this study makes a case for Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) as an appropriate pedagogical approach so that information and facts about the disease can be brought to real life situations. Opinions and ideas on COVID-19 were obtained from secondary sources and analysed qualitatively leading to the suggestion that schools should reopen for students to leverage the opportunities which COVID-19 has presented to education.

Millikan Experiment Analysis (Published)

Millikan experiment demonstrated the quantization of the electron charge and measured its magnitude. Millikan experiment is repeated in school laboratories, mostly with disappointing results. However, it is interesting to interpret the data presented by Millikan at his reception of the Nobel Prize and in an article in Physical Review. He spent many years perfecting the experiment, reducing convection currents and changed to oil drops to reduce the evaporation. The best data corresponded to drops so small that it took them 120 seconds to fall 1,303 cm, values that correspond to the presence of 1 to 4 electrons in a drop. However, in school laboratories, times as short as 3 to 10 seconds are routinely obtained, corresponding to the charges of tens of electrons per drop to overcome gravity. Such time, therefore, demand a very high precision in the measurement of speeds, seldom available in a typical school environment.

The Effectiveness Of Sociodrama Techniques in Improving Self Concept and Self Efficacy On Students Sma Negeri 2 Bantul (Published)

The purpose of this research was to know the effectiveness of sociodrama technique in improving self concept and self efficacy of student in SMA Negeri 2 Bantul. This research type is experiment. The design used in this research was pre-test and post-test design. The subjects in this study were 27 students of class XI IPA 2. The instrument in this research was self concept scale called TSCS consisting of 84 item statements and self efficacy scale consisting of 26 item statement. Technique of data analysis in this research used t tests formula for significance level 0.05.The results showed that sociodrama technique was effective to improve self concept and self efficacy of students. Self concept and self efficacy of students increased in the “high” category. There was a difference in the end result of control class and experiment class after obtaining group guidance of sosiodrama technique with p (p-value) or sig> 0.05, then H0 was accepted.

Teaching Business English at Non-Specialized Faculties in Azerbaijan (Results of Experimental Analysis at Azerbaijan State Economic University) (Published)

The article deals with the problem of Teaching Business English at non-specialized faculties of Azerbaijan. Business English is one of the branches of ESP, and it is the mostly used area in the world nowadays. Some authors, such as, Hutchinson T and Waters A, David Carver, Robinson, Toni Dudley-Evans, Jeremy Harmer, R.Mackay & A.J.Mountford and some other investigated ESP and its classification. In the 2nd part of the 19th century, Business English began to develop as an independent area of ESP and for learning it, learners should have General English knowledge. The main purpose of the article is to hold an experiment at non-specialized faculties in Azerbaijan. So, Azerbaijan State Economic University was chosen as a  target place for the experiment. A two-part experiment, each of which continued for 5 weeks, was held at ASEU in 2 experimental and 2 control groups. The results of the experiment are described in the tables given below.

EFFECT OF INTRA-ROW SPACING ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF GARLIC (ALLIUM SATIVUM) AT THE EXPERIMENTAL SITE OF WOLLO UNIVERSITY, SOUTH WOLLO, ETHIOPIA (Published)

A field experiment was conducted at the experimental site of Wollo University, kelemeda during in 2013 cropping season. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of intra-row spacing on the growth performance of garlic. The experiment was conducted on a randomized complete block design with three replications. Only one local variety was used on the experiment. The result of the experiment revealed significant difference among treatments with regard to plant height at 56 days after emergence. Plant height was influenced by intra row spacing such that plant height increases when the intra row spacing of the plant decreases. A significance difference was also recorded in leaf width, leaf length and leaf number per plant as influenced by intra row spacing (P<0.05). The highest leaf width (1.99) was recorded in treatment five (planted with 20cm plant spacing). The wider the plant spacing the higher was the leaf number. However the results of the experiment did not include yield components. Thus, a similar research should be conducted so as to assure the results of this experiment and to include yield components.

EFFECT OF PHOSPHORUS FERTILIZER ON YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS OF CHICKPEA/ CICER ARIETINUM) AT KELEMEDA, SOUTH WOLLO, ETHIOPIA (Published)

Filed experiment was carried out to study the effect of varying levels of phosphorus (T1= 0kg/ha, T2= 30kg/ha, T3= 60kg /ha, T4=90kg/ha and T5 =120kg/ha) on growth performance and yield of chickpea (Cicer –arietinum) variety Aratiy at the experimental field of Wollo university, Kelem meda, during winter season in 2013. The results revealed that phosphorus levels significantly affected plant height, number of branches per plant and number of pods per plant. The maximum plant height (39.25cm) was recorded from plots received 60kg P 2O 5 ha -1, while the minimum plant height (32.5cm) was recorded from the control. Similarly higher number of branches per plant was recorded from the same treatment. The maximum number of pods per plant (49) was observed from the application of 60kg P 2O 5 ha -1. Generally the results revealed that the application of 60kg P2O5 ha -1 better performance in all of the parameters studied. However this research was conducted using irrigation, in one location and season. Thus, it should be replicated in multi-location and season so as to assure the results of the experiment
