Building Institutional Repository: Knowledge Management, Content, Understanding of Key Issues and the Librarians Role (Published)
Institutional Repositories (IRs) are increasingly becoming crucial library resources, and more use of digitized material is fundamental in building sustainable IRs. With a series of universities and research sites distributed throughout the continent, a lot of researchwhich requires preservation is obviously carried out in the institutions. However, a majority of the research generated from these institutions ends up in various libraries which are hardly accessed by learners. As such, many African scholars rely greatly on information from developed nations and reduce Africa to just a consumer of information, rather than a source, hence building an accessible IR allows the display of the works of scholars to the broader community and considerably assists in the advancement of an institution and its outreach. The successful establishment of an institutional repository needs careful arrangements and enthusiasm from the entire institutional community such as students, faculty members and academic staff. Critical decisions have to be made before making any designs and redesigns on IRs such as the funds, staff, technology, metadata, content, building operations and successful management and running of the IRs. This paper explores knowledge management in terms of software and the evolution of how knowledge is managed, the inclusion process of content through structured content organization and modular content publishing, issues of IRs in Nigerian Universities, and the roles of the librarian in building institutional repositories.
Enhancing Language Learning Through Technology (Published)
This paper examines current research and developments in the field of language learning and teaching, focusing on role of educational technology and digital communications in acquisition of new or second languages. The purpose of the study is to consider the impact of evolving technologies, including devices such as computers, smartphones, and tablets, as well as more traditional media such as film, photography and written or printed materials. A review of current literature and studies in language learning is presented, describing works on the ethics, values and culture of the internet. The general research question is, How can new technology be used to enhance language learning by second language and foreign language learners? The study employs an interpretivist, qualitative research method, and concludes that digital technologies constitute a new literacy and essential component of language learning and communication. Further research into the various tools and techniques of digital instruction is recommended.
The present study sheds lights on the digital art in terms of its concept, history, types and technical styles. It presents the works of some artists who have turned their work into digital creative achievements and become leaders of digital art, depending on the emergence of computer softwares that helped enrich the output of this type of art, on their reflection on the aesthetic side in the plastic art, and on the distinctive presence of digital achievements in the global plastic scene. The present study is an attempt to identify the role of the digital art and its techniques in the promotion of the creative aspect in the plastic art. It adopts the descriptive analytical approach. It also presents the methodological framework which includes the study’s problem, significance, limitations, methodology, terms, and review of literature. The theoretical framework includes two sections: the first of which is the digital art, its concept, history of its development, its types, and methods. The second one is the digital art in the works of the leading digital artists and its role in the promotion of the plastic art. The study concluded that the digital art has enriched and upgraded the aesthetic value in the plastic art. It recommended further studies on the digital art, and suggested “The technical features of the creative digital achievement generated by the employment of digital art’s types and styles”.
