HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN NIGERIA: HUMAN RIGHTS AND CRIMINAL LAW PERSPECTIVES

Abstract

This paper considers human trafficking from two aspects of law – human rights and criminal law. The paper reveals that human trafficking is not only a domestic problem in Nigeria but also that the problem has received global concern from human rights and criminal law perspectives. The efforts made by the government of Nigeria and some States in Nigeria to combat the act of human trafficking will be specifically focused. Accordingly, the legal and institutional framework for combating human trafficking will be clearly established with a view to showing that despite the spirited efforts in Nigeria to combat human trafficking, the act is on the increase. Beyond the legal and institutional framework for combating the act, the paper suggests other possible ways for combating the act of human trafficking in Nigeria
